Biography

Dr. Haricharan started her independent research program as an Assistant Professor at Sanford Burnham Prebys in 2018 after completing her MSc at University of Leicester, UK in 2006, her PhD at Baylor College of Medicine in 2013, and two two-year postdoctoral training periods first at MD Anderson Cancer Center, and then with Dr. Matthew Ellis at Baylor College of Medicine. During her training she was exposed to a range of research areas from transgenic mouse models of breast cancer development to implementing and analyzing multi-omics studies on patient tumors. In her own lab, she incorporates skills learnt from her different training experiences to focus on patient-informed cancer research balanced on a strong foundation of classical molecular biology techniques. Dr. Haricharan's independent research program focuses on studying cancer biology through the lens of the lived experiences of the host in the contexts of race, gender and age.
